Symptoms of damage
- Flat slug like green larva bores into buds, flowers and green pods and feeds inside the developing grains
- Presence of regular, big, circular borehole on the flowers and pods.
- Black ants hovering around the plants
Identification of the pest
Eggs:
Round, sculptured, laid singly on flower buds, tender pods, shoots and leaves.
Egg period 3 – 4 days.
Larva – * Flat, slug like, green or yellowish green, red coloured mid stripe and few hairs.
* Larval period 8 – 10 days.
* Prepupal stage - 2 – 3 days.
Adult - - Blue butterfly, having five black spots on the dorsal surface of the hind wing and two black spots on the ventral surface.
- Wings are blue on upper side and grey on lower side.
